Leah Part II - All for so little (the unloved)

“We forsake our own selves for a morsel of love, all, for so little.”

Continuing Leah’s story…
So Jacob did take Leah, reluctantly, he had no choice. Imagine someone marrying you or is being with you only by force of circumstance, no emotional feelings involved. Out of custom, of pity, of kindness maybe? Not only was Leah less in the eyes of men compared to her sister, she’s now tied to a husband that doesn’t love her too, and competing for love with her very own sister. And this was neither of anyone’s fault in the love triangle.

Now I really take my hat off to this girl, and nowhere in Genesis does it say that she rebelled against God or resorted to evil ways or suicide to remedy her situation, instead, she held on to the hope that one day, she’ll be loved equally as Rachel. And God saw this.

“When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved, he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren. – Genesis 29:31”
“When the LORD saw that Leah was not loved” – Now isn’t it such a comfort knowing that God sees everything, that he’s fully aware of our situation, where we are and where our hearts stand? And he just doesn’t sit up there on His throne and do nothing “HE opened her womb” and honored her with the firstborn and three more children. Leah hoped this would change everything.

“Leah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Reuben, for she said, "It is because the LORD has seen my misery. Surely my husband will love me now." Genesis 29:32
Leah had three more sons (Genesis 29:33,34) and each time she held on to the dream of Jacob loving her. With each son, she suffered nine months and risk death giving birth.

Oh how many Leahs we have today, giving everything and doing anything for love, for approval. We trade our honor for a bit of acceptance. It maybe from that guy we like, or the relationship we’re trying to keep. We forsake our own selves for a morsel of love, all, for so little.

But alas! Leah wakes up and in place of hoping Jacob would change heart with her fourth son, she recognized God’s love and precious gift and gave Him praise.

“She conceived again, and when she gave birth to a son she said, "This time I will praise the LORD." So she named him Judah. Then she stopped having children.- Genesis 29:35”
Maybe Leah got tired of hoping, of waiting or maybe she just wouldn’t put up with being a ‘push-over’ anymore. Notice that after this, she stopped having children. Maybe at last, she learned to love herself and stopped trying to get someone else to.
_________________________________________

There’s this guy you like and you have tried everything to get his attention, to the point you’re cheapened, girl, there are plenty of men in the planet. If he doesn’t see your worth, find someone who would. He’s not worth your tears.

If you’re living in with someone for years now and there’s still no ring on your finger, after you’ve given him yourself, your service, your love, and still doesn’t see you’re worth the wedding and the commitment, there’s something wrong there. You deserve a vow, you deserve better, so much better.

If you’re a wife who feels unloved and taken for granted, I won’t tell you to leave your husband. Leah didn’t do that, instead she stuck by Jacob, raised his sons and in the last part of this series, we’ll see how God honored her loyalty to her husband.

To be continued…
