Just married
There are advantages definitely to being single and I’d still say it’s better to be single than to be married to the wrong person BUT marriage is just as well as beneficial.
- We gain a best friend – One we can truly talk to, who loves us for who we are, won’t mind our afro hair and mean breath in the morning. One to share deep secrets with and intimate experiences, who will stick it out with us no matter what, through the bad and the good times, and our ugly moments.
Ask any contented couple the secret of their lasting marriage and most will say it’s the ‘friendship”.
- We gain a team mate – The one to share our dreams and aspirations with and together help realize them. Two heads is better than one, we get a partner in crime to share the load with (We will never again have to take the blame alone – hehe). Someone who’d be equally happy with our achievements.
That’s why it’s important too, to marry someone who understands and believe in what we do. It’s ok to be opposites to some extent but should have enough common ground and interests to work on together.
3. We get extended – From being singles and individual people; we become one with our spouses without losing our identities, we just get added to each other. I like the way a friend of mine puts it – Aside from Christ being the center of it, there’s ‘you’, ‘me’, and ‘us’.
There’s a quote I posted here that for me, is a beautiful, truthful and poetic description of marriage by Amy bloom.
“Marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner.”
Choosing who we will marry is vital and being the RIGHT ONE to marry is also as equally important. There’s a saying here that goes “Ang pag-aasawa ay hindi tulad ng kaning isusubo na iluluwa kung mapaso,” meaning (in English), “marriage is not like a steamed rice you can spit out if you get burned” so being with and choosing the right ONE is necessary, and make sure we’re truly ready for it already.
John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
