Book Review: EATING WITH ONE CHOPSTICK by LJ Salceda

The book arrived this morning and yes, I’ve finished it in a few hours. That’s how interesting it is. I just didn’t want to put it down until I’ve read every word!

The author, LJ T. Salceda, is the host and producer of a cultural show “Pinoy Espesyal” in the morning and a musical show “Inspirations Unlimited” in the afternoon at a local Christian station in the Philippines

THE REVIEW

-         The book is very honest and detailed. A “No holds barred” telling of what it’s like growing up in a family abandoned by a parent.

-         It’s successful in taking you mentally and emotionally where the author wants you to be, at a place of better understanding for children (people) raised in such a predicament.

-           It tackles not only the emotional scars of the children from a broken home but also the abandoned partner.

-         Although it’s a heart-wrenching story, it’s positive in a  different light (and you have to get a copy to see what I mean)

-         More than just Lj’s life story, the book also has listings of organizations that help single parents, including legal assistance and law provisions.

-         It has tips on single parenting from a Christian perspective.

WHO should read the book?

Every daughter and son – Orphaned, raised by a set of parents or a single one. Gives a refreshed appreciation of parents

Every single person planning to have a family – It opens your eyes to the reality of the consequences of not choosing a future spouse wisely or taking the plunge when you’re not yet ready.

Every single parent!!! – Like I’ve mentioned above, it’s full of information and help for those single handedly raising a family.

Every one who has abandoned a family! (or considering that) – This book will change your life! IT will make you see yourself differently through the eyes of the spouse and the children you’ve left behind (or leaving behind),

Everyone – To realize how blessed we are if we’ve been raised in a more normal home setting, and awaken better concern for those who’ve not been.

EATING WITH ONE CHOPSTICK (Growing Up in a Single-Parent Home) is now available in all CSM, Christian and non-Christian bookstores.
