Typhoon Ondoy Update (The aftermath)

A brief report of the devastating storm that drowned Manila and nearby towns last Saturday:

As of Tuesday, September 29, 2009 – 240 confirmed dead. Many are still missing and unaccounted for. Some bodies buried in the mud in some areas are still waiting to be picked up.

More than a thousand families are now in evacuation centers needing food water, blankets, mats and other essentials. So far I’ve not heard reports yet of how many have lost their homes but the last figure I gathered a few days ago was 153 families at least.

As of this writing, some places are still flooded and rescue is difficult. There are still people stranded in these areas and rescuers are trying their best to reach them.

The Government, the National Disaster coordinating Council and NGO’s are all helping to distribute relief goods and whatever help they can extend.
