Cataplexy

Do you ever wonder what life would be like without emotion or if emotion could kill? Well, you might not know this but there are people with a rare condition that suffer a great deal from having emotion.

CATAPLEXY is an abrupt temporary loss of voluntary muscular function and tone, sometimes evoked by an emotional stimulus such as laughter, pleasure, anger or excitement. The attacks can last just a few seconds or many minutes. They may end in the resumption of normal behavior or be followed by sleep for half an hour.

This girl just moved me:

And this man made me cry

NOTE: If someone you know or near you with Cataplexy suddenly suffer an attack. DON’T PANIC! Don’t touch the person, poke or try to revive him/her. The more they get excited, embarrassed, worried, anxious, the more they go into deeper Cataplexic attack. Best you can do is wait, calm them down by gently talking, they can hear you and even see you if they collapsed with eyes open, they just can’t move. Once they relax, muscle function returns.

Now, after watching that, don’t we just feel thankful and blessed that even though sometimes love hurts and frustrations stresses us, at least we’re free to love, to be excited, to laugh, to simply have emotion?

My dad has this condition, started some time around two 1/2 three years ago, the first few episodes were really scary!!! not knowing what was going on went to the ER. The Dr's did all these tests, we did research finally coming up with Cataplexy... He's doing ok dealing with it but the spells are still there, I just can't figure out why after all these years this starts and can't be stoped, now he has more stress can't work, and comming up with money for medicine , I just wish there was another kind of physical emotional treatment .. thanks to the Dr's who study this condition and I hope for a cure to all the people who suffer from this.
