Do you ever worry how people perceive you? Sometimes I do and at one time, while having a conversation with a friend, it came out and what she said struck me…
She said that the first thing that matters is:
1. GOD knows who we are – Of course, how can anyone know us better than HIM. His Word says He even knows the number of hair on our heads (Matt. 10:30). He knows us deep within. We can lie to ourselves but not to GOD. And if we know that what we’re doing pleases Him, we’ll have peace.
Not in the confidence that we sin no more (can anyone claim so?) but that we know HE knows our weaknesses but we struggle and do our best to overcome them, also through the strength that He gives us.
2. We know who we are – now this one is tricky and there’s no formula here than to be true to oneself. It’s not uncommon for other people to misinterpret us. But does it matter if we know deep down they’re wrong?
To people who minister, at times it does. Our testimony is important and how they perceive us sometimes affect the effectiveness of what we do. The problem is that most tend to think because we work for the Lord, we never get tired, should never pout, never discouraged or make wrong decisions. These expectations are just not real.
3. Our real friends and family knows who we are – These are the ones we will grow old with and will be there during the hard times. Now, I know that not everyone has been blessed with a good family. I’ve heard stories of people who are strangers to their parents and siblings.
In some cases, we just think they don’t know us but they do. We can’t blame them if it’s us who don’t open up and would rather talk to a stranger.
So next time you were in a situation that put you in the bad light or somebody read you wrong, don’t pity party. IF you know you’re doing it right by GOD (and I mean in all truth and not just convincing yourself you are) then that is what matters the most
