Understanding women #2

…when we don’t talk…

…chances are, we’re upset or bothered about something but can’t tell what it is. Even though talking is therapeutic to women, there are instances when we do hold back words. There are a number of reasons why we do so:

 We doubt our own judgment whether we should feel bothered about the thing that worries or upset us or not. Are we being petty, did we misinterpret someone or the situation? Would telling aggravate it?

 Fear - We had a bad experience before when we told our worries. Either it was misunderstood, refused to be heard or shoved aside as if they weren’t real or important. Fear of getting hurt from not being taken seriously.

 We’re at our wits end and doesn’t want to hurl words that we’ll regret once we’ve calmed down.

…Just feeling quiet. Yes. We run of things to say too (these moments are rare so take advantage of them). We’re not upset or worried or bored but just prefer to quietly hold hands, snuggle or lean on a husband, boyfriend or friend’s shoulder, no words.

See? We’re complicated. But once you figure us out, handle us with care and respect, with love and understanding, you will find a treasure.
